I’m running against DeGise

Dear Editor:
In an article entitled “Stacked up against Atack – Former Union City Deputy Police Chief Joe Blaettler has the right idea,” Al Sullivan reports that Tom DeGise is looking for a political job that will allow him to step down as county executive early next year. If DeGise has no intention of keeping his job, he shouldn’t be running for re-election. This is how Democrats do business in this county: setting up a musical chairs or domino effect, allowing them to put anyone they wish into positions of power, without having to have an election to do so. They thus deprive residents of their constitutional right to elect their representatives.
Also, while Mr. Sullivan mentions the GOP candidates for NJ assembly and notes that “Republicans have every right to ask why people should vote for a Democrat who may or may not be in that seat next year,” he fails to even mention that DeGise is opposed in his campaign for re-election. He is. By me. Your reporters need to have full and accurate information, and they can’t do a story concerning an official’s running for re-election and his intentions not to stay in office, without even reporting that he has an opponent for re-election. The voters are entitled to this information, and it’s the press’s responsibility to report on this fully, not as a pawn of one of the political branches. Please be sure to cover all the candidates and issues. And to the voters, please don’t re-elect someone who has no intention of staying in the job but only intends to see to it that one of his political friends gets his job by appointment rather than election by the voters. Vote 4B on November 8th.
