North Bergen man sentenced to 41 months for stealing $1M in cargo
A North Bergen man was sentenced Tuesday to 41 months in prison for organizing a cargo theft ring that stole tractor-trailers filled with merchandise from trucking yards in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania, according to U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.
Hamad Siyam, 43, was convicted on charges of conspiring to possess goods traveling in interstate commerce and possession of goods traveling in interstate commerce. The sentence was imposed Tuesday in Newark Federal Court after a jury’s previous conviction.
Advanced Physical Medicine Center holds Thanksgiving food drive
The Advanced Physical Medicine Center of Fairview has announced the launch of its 19th annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the Fairview welfare department. Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected from Tuesday, Nov. 1 through Tuesday, Nov. 15 at the Advanced Physical Medicine Center at 222 Bergen Blvd. in Fairview.
“We urge local residents to contribute whatever they can to this worthy cause by donating non-perishable food including canned and dry goods such as vegetables, soup, instant potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy and stuffing mix,” said Dr. Arber, clinical director of the Advanced Physical Medicine Center. “During these tough economic times, this is one small way to make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who need it most.”

Park Players to hold auditions
The Park Players, a Hudson County Theatre group, are casting for their 2012 season. The players expect to have two shows, “An Evening at Antonia’s” a musical revue and “Two by Two,” a Broadway musical based on Glifford Odet’s play “The Flowering Peach”
Auditions will take place 7 to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7, Wednesday, Nov. 9, and Monday, Nov. 14 at the Church of the Good at 1576 Palisade Ave. in Fort Lee.
Currently in their 32nd season, the Players recently performed “And Then There was Nun” at Antonia’s by the Park restaurant in July.

North Bergen woman running for Team Animal League
North Bergen resident Melodie Fratt has decided to run the ING New York City 2011 Marathon for homeless dogs and cats of North Shore Animal League America.
Melodie is one of 50 athletes who comprise Team Animal League, which aims to raise $200,000 through donations and pledges.

NJMC is hosting art exhibit
The New Jersey Meadowlands Commission will host the 64th annual Art Association of Rutherford Open Juried Exhibition at the NJMC Flyway Gallery in the Meadowlands Environment Center in DeKorte Park in North Arlington.
The exhibit will feature environmental art and photography from North Bergen and other Meadowlands District towns. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, excluding holidays. This exhibit will run until Friday, Nov.25.
