How to help local animals

Dear Editor:
The Liberty Humane Society has for many years fulfilled our mission to the Jersey City and Hoboken communities in that we foster a community of compassion and respect and provide animals in need with a chance at a lifelong loving home. As an animal shelter, we provide a safe haven for animals and we are a great place to adopt a new family pet. The ways in which we benefit our community range from our Wellness Clinic that provides spay/neutering services to help reduce pet overpopulation to reuniting lost pets with their families and providing consultative pet services to the community at large.
In honor of National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week (Nov. 6 – 12), this is a perfect opportunity for you, your family and our community to become acquainted with your local animal shelter and to help homeless pets.
Here are just a few ways to get involved:
• Adopt your next pet from a shelter!!
• Become a fan of your local shelter on facebook.com/LibertyHumaneSociety.
• Volunteer – helping animals at the shelter can be an incredibly rewarding experience. You can volunteer to walk dogs, pet cats and much more.
• Be a responsible pet owner by keeping your pet at home as a member of your family for a lifetime.
• Spay/neuter your pets and making sure that they are wearing collars and ID tags to get them home safely if they ever become lost.
• Ask your local shelter what else you can do to be a great pet owner.
Liberty Humane Society will host an Open House on Saturday, Nov. 12 to showcase our local animal shelter and provide our community with an in-person look at how our shelter employees and volunteer work tirelessly to provide our animals with the much needed services that we offer.
