Do you want to run for school board?

Dear Editor:
I’m writing as chair of an independent committee of 16 parents, educators and community activists from every ward in the city who are vetting potential school board candidates. The April election may seem a long way off, but we have already begun our work. When we’re done, we hope to endorse three stellar candidates — and recommend that Councilman Steven Fulop do the same. While his team has promised to endorse our candidates, the most important thing about their support is that he does not attend our meetings, we do not brief him on them and he has no input on who we will choose.
The endorsed candidates will receive the same thing as the candidates he endorsed in the prior two school board races: financial assistance with the campaign and a tireless effort from Steve’s dedicated volunteers.
This is a pivotal time for our schools and the board needs people with a broad range of talents, including facilities management, education statistics, human resources and contracts. If you think you have the right skills, as well as the time and the commitment, please email me at ellenrsimon@gmail.com and I will send you the questionnaire we are sending to all potential candidates. The deadline to return it to us is Dec. 15.

Thank you,

Ellen Simon
