SECAUCUS AND BEYOND — Judge Sean H. Lane, a New York bankruptcy judge, approved the sale of the Secaucus warehouse of the once famous H&H Bagels this past Friday, according to The Record. The struggling company vacated the Secaucus premises in May and shut down its operations in New York in June.
The approval allows main creditor DRA Asia LLC — which said it was owed $5.8 million by building owner 35 Real Estate — to purchase the 75,000-square-foot warehouse as part of the final bankruptcy plan.
Helmer Toro and his former brother-in-law Hector Hernandez first opened H&H Bagel in 1972 in the Upper West Side and expanded operations to Secaucus in 2006. The company employed 75 people in Secaucus. The company has experienced financial trouble in recent years and has been involved in bankruptcy and legal proceedings.
