Weehawken’s Hudson River Walkway to be completed soon

Someday, everyone will get to bike or walk all the way from Bayonne to the George Washington Bridge along the Hudson River. Little by little, portions of a Hudson River Waterfront Walkway are being added.
According to Ron Simoncini of Hartz Properties, the final 30-foot portion of Weehawken’s section of the walkway, behind the Sheraton Hotel area, is set to be completed by the end of 2011.
By New Jersey law, all developers along the river are responsible for adding a section of walkway on their properties. In 1984, the Public Trust Doctrine of New Jersey formed the legislation that granted the public access to the waterfront.
The Weehawken section-in-progress lies near the Weehawken/Hoboken border on Hartz-owned property.
The Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy of New Jersey oversees the creation of the walkway, which will ultimately continue along the water for 18.5 miles.
