HOBOKEN AND BEYOND — NJBiz.com reported on Monday that New York Giants Quarterback Eli Manning and his wife, Abby, are among the residents of the luxury Tea Building complex in uptown Hoboken who oppose a proposed development nearby on the northern waterfront.
The website says: “The Giants quarterback and his wife sent a letter on Oct. 31 to DEP Commissioner Bob Martin and employees John King and Kimberly Kerkuska asking them to reject the application by Shipyard Associates to build two 11-story towers. However, the DEP approved permits for the project on Dec. 2.”
Much of the Shipyard project, built by Ironstate Development, was constructed years ago, with the new towers proposed on inland piers. The development is opposed by several other Tea Building residents and city officials because of its location.
NJBiz reports that “In the letter, the Mannings expressed concern that the views from their condo at a nearby building would be affected and wrote: ‘This is not an appropriate use for the site, it is contrary to the City of Hoboken’s master plan and it is contrary to 15 years of subsequent planning in the neighborhood … now that we have started a family we are even more greatly concerned with the safety and infrastructure problems along the neighborhood waterfront walkways and roads which have seen multiple collapses over the past two years. Surely a residential development on this pier site does not make sense.”
They seem informed about various local issues. They must be reading the Hoboken Reporter.
