Jersey City has recently been awarded Silver Certification by Sustainable Jersey! This is excellent news for all of us, and we congratulate Mayor Healy’s Office and the municipal Green Task Team, and especially the Division of City Planning, on the hard work they have done to help us attain this honor.
We, at Sustainable Jersey City— a collaborative network of civic minded groups citizens —look forward to the rich range of opportunities this opens up for greater partnership between the Community and the City for neighborhood green initiatives.
Sustainable Jersey “is a certification program for municipalities in New Jersey that want to go green, save money, and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term.” So far, 96 municipalities have been certified of the 365 who have registered for the program. This puts Jersey City on track toward a more sustainable future and everyone who lives and works here can take pride in this recognition.
Both municipal officials and community groups have been working hard to make Jersey City a more sustainable place to live and work. We have all had some successes, and now working together, we can move this agenda further along in ways that benefit us all.
The Permaculture Learning Garden recently installed at Hudson County Washington Park, near the green gazebos, is but one example of the great things we can do together, when municipal officials and community members collaborate on innovative green infrastructure solutions.
Sustainable Jersey City looks forward to working with the new Environmental Commission to help anchor Jersey City as one of the leading, most sustainable municipalities within the State of New Jersey.
Once more, we congratulate the City on its remarkable achievement. Let’s go, Jersey City!
