Dear Mayor Zimmer:
I have lived in Hoboken for nine years. A couple of weeks ago, I parked my car in the metered parking zone on Sinatra Drive. As it turned out, the meters on both the east and west sides of the street were not working. Two other drivers showed up while I was there and they could not get the meters to work either. We all ended up leaving our cars parked there, presuming that the Hoboken Parking Utility was aware of the problem. I returned two hours later to find to my surprise and annoyance a $30 parking violation ticket. If the parking rules enforcement personnel find a whole street block of cars parked without a meter tickets, shouldn’t they automatically try to find out if the meters are working on that block? I felt fleeced and taken advantage of and I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling that way. The parking rules ought to be enforced fairly.
Thank you,
Cyril Max Zormelo
