The hob’art co-operative gallery will present an exhibition, entitled “Markings,” at the Watchung Arts Center.
Curator Tom Egan chose the work on view to offer a dialogue on how surfaces are changed by the addition of any line, scratch, pattern, color, or random marking. Examples of drawing, painting, printmaking and three dimensional art by members will be displayed.
Dates of the exhibit are Feb. 2 to 29.
A reception will be held on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 1-4 p.m.
The Watchung Art Center is located at 18 Stirling Rd., Watchung, and is open to the public on Wednesday, by appointment only; on Thursday and Friday, noon – 3 p.m.; and Saturday by appointment only.
The hob’art co-operative gallery, with membership from Hoboken and the metropolitan area, exists primarily to serve the community by providing a showcase for fine art and to support local artists in their efforts that their voice be heard.
Artwork by the members will include Mike Lindwasser’s and Tom Egan’s markings on night photographs. Ann Kinney, Pauline Chernichaw, and Don Sichler captured marks in sunlit exteriors, while Starr Tucker-Ortega used light to leave trails of spaces on a photogram.
Stan Lindwasser and Kim DeAngelo painted on canvas, Liz Cohen combined paint and collage on paper, Ibou Ndoye painted on the reverse side of glass, Abby Levine painted her wooden sculpture and Leslie Rubman Xeroxed a painted and collaged image.
Additional artworks include an assemblage by Jodi Zulueta, a dry point etching by Constance Ftera, a wood carving by Geraldine Anderson Gaines and Prismacolor pencil on board by Gailene St. Amand.
