Get the power flowing

Dear Editor:
Respect & civility prompt me first thank the Hon. Mayor B.P. Stack for trying to help get the Washington Park pathway lights fixed. He returned my phone calls, met with PSEG to resolve the lack of lighting, and gave me a plausible explanation for why 3 of the 4 lights do not work. For the readers background info on these lights: 2 of them are broken and of the two one has been broken since last winter. 1 light flickers or does not turn on at night on the Second Street and Palisade Ave side of the park in Union City.
The pathways are shrouded in inky darkness and are illuminated by nearby lights from the streets or soccer field or WP clubhouse (1 light shield has been vandalized and is shattered). The fact is that park lights mostly do not work along those asphalt pathways. My own observations is that PSEG work crews have installed signal lights on lower New York Avenue and a generator on the 200 block of Palisade Avenue, directly across from the park. They may be backlogged but fixing the park lights apparently is not that high a priority. I continue to respectfully ask the most powerful politician in Hudson County, Mayor Stack, to get the power flowing in all park pathway lights. I shall keep the readers abreast of how long it takes to get the lights back on. I also directly appeal to Commissioner Irizarry and all the Commissioners to have a “Si, se puede” approach. It can be done with your strenuous, consistent and concerted help. Muchas gracias.

Your neighborhood friend & park shepherd,
Tony Squire
