HRPAC to kick off its free lunchtime concert series

The Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center (HRPAC) will kick off its free lunchtime UBS Atrium concert series in the Atrium at 1000 Harbor Blvd. in Weehawken on Tuesday, March 13 at 12:30 p.m. with a special performance by the Prodigals.
The Prodigals are one of the most successful bands to emerge from the East Coast Irish music scene with a funky energy that is pure New York, though with a genuine passion for the traditional music of Ireland. They have played throughout the U.S. from Los Angeles and Las Vegas to Chicago and Boston, as well as abroad.
Led by button accordion expert and vocalist, Gregory Grene, the Prodigals blend various musical forms from rock and roll to folk to Celtic.
All performances for the UBS Atrium Series begin at 12:30 p.m. and are sponsored in part by The Hudson Reporter. The concert is free and open to the public. Weehawken Library to hold Les Paul and Mary Ford tribute

The Weehawken Free Public Library will present musicians Tom Doyle and Sandy Cory in a musical tribute to Les Paul and Mary Ford on Monday, March 19 at 7 p.m.
The free interactive concert will feature guitar, flute, percussion and vocals, interspersed with recollections from Doyle, who spent 40 years as a sound performance engineer and guitarist. He was a close confident of Les Paul, the legendary guitar player, inventor, and acknowledged architect of rock and roll.
The husband and wife team of Les Paul and Mary Ford could be found at the top of the pop music charts throughout the1950s. Their biggest hits included “Tennessee Waltz,” “How High the Moon,” “Lady of Spain,” and “I’m Sitting on Top of the World.” During the mid-1950s, the duo starred on a television program, “The Les Paul and Mary Ford Show.”
Seating for the concert at the library will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No registration is necessary. There will be a short intermission and light refreshments will be served.

VFW to hold annual Atlantic City fundraiser trip

The Weehawken Oulton Kraft Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1923 will hold its semi-annual fundraiser with a trip to Atlantic City. Attendants will depart on March 25 at 8 a.m. from 309 Park Ave. and will be home by 7:30 p.m.

Weehawken Weekenders to see Copacabana

Town of Weehawken to hold annual Easter party for seniors

The mayor and Weehawken Town Council invite all Weehawken seniors to the annual Easter party on March 31 at 12 p.m. at the Weehawken Elks Lodge at 2 50th St. There will be music, food, and prizes for original Easter bonnets. To sign up, call the Senior Center at (201) 319-6060.

Archangel Airborne to hold Haiti benefit concert

Archangel Airborne will hold a Haiti benefit concert at Park United Methodist Church at 51 Clifton Terrace in Weehawken on Saturday, March 17 at 3 p.m. The concert will help fund medical missions and will include original works by Archangel Airborne President and Founder Stuart Douglas Hirsch on guitar and vocals; Charu Suri on piano and organ; Matthew Minucci on trombone; and other musical guests.
Refreshments will be available at intermission.

Hudson Theatre Works to hold benefit evening

Hudson Theatre Works will hold a benefit evening on March 21 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Park Avenue Bar & Grill in Union City located at 3417 Park Ave. in Union City. The fundraiser will support the theatre company and help to fully stage a play this coming year.
The evening’s events will be hosted by Nancy Giles from CBS News and will include performances by various artists, including actor Patrick Richwood, violinist Eric Grossman, woodwind players Alan Brady and Jeff Nichols, and readings by Nancy Giles, Greg Erbach, and Sean Patrick Riley.
Tickets cost $65 a piece or two for $120, and there will be food and silent auctions.

Weehawken Recreation to hold girls’ softball tryouts and registration

Weehawken Recreation will hold its girls’ softball tryouts and registration at the Webster School Gym located at 2700 Palisade Ave. from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Tryouts and registration for girls 10 and under will be held Tuesdays, March 13 and 20. For girls age 12 and under, they will be held on Wednesday, March 14 and 21. For girls age 16 and under, they will be held Thursday, March 15 and 22.
Age is determined by player’s age as of Dec. 31, 2011. Candidates must wear sneakers and bring a glove. Proof of residency and birth certificate required.
