Art House Productions will kick off its 2012 seasonal art celebration, JC Fridays, on March 2 with fun programming that will once again showcase Jersey City’s creative community. JC Fridays is sponsored in part by the Hudson Reporter.
Restaurants, galleries, stores, and other venues spaces throughout Jersey City will host a variety of art-centered parties, including visual exhibitions, live music, performance acts, educational demonstrations, and more.
All events are admission-free and open to the public.
Recognized for its thriving emerging art scene, Jersey City is home to professional photographers, painters, dancers, filmmakers, and craft artists. JC Fridays, held quarterly, offers one of the best opportunities for the larger Jersey City community to see the fine are created in their backyard.
What’s in store
For those more interested in other visual media, JC Fridays will still offer up its more traditional line-up of gallery exhibits.
The Majestic Theatre and Condominium Association and Silverman Development will present From the Road by Jennifer Krause Chapeau. Curated by Brendan Carroll, From the Road is a 10-year survey of landscape paintings by artist Jennifer Krause Chapeau. The artist is often inspired by landscapes that rush past a windshield or passenger side window as she drives cross-country. Speed informs the content and composition of her paintings. This handicap-accessible and family-friendly exhibit will be open to the public from 7 to 9 p.m. at 222 Montgomery St.
For its official grand re-opening JC Studios, at 143 Columbus Drive, will present 143’s Alive, an evening of visual art, spoken word, and live music the organization’s newly renovated space.
Grassroots Community Space will present “Poetic: Movement, Art & Words,” to cool your “dance fever.” This event will feature interactive dance and movement demonstrations, in addition to dance performances.
At LITM, artist Darin DeField’s exhibit Afro Centricity, which opened last month, will continue for JC Fridays. A well-known Jersey City painter and collage artist, DeField’s LITM exhibit includes several works from DeField’s “Head Series,” a collection of pieces that are reminiscent of sculpted African tribal masks.
For the hipster family crowd that Art House Productions will host Three Little Birds, a “happy hour” for kids.

At the Art House
Naturally, Art House Productions will also have its own fine line up of programs for JC Fridays. Art House will present Progression, a group art show featuring the work of Randi Wolfman, Jessica Smith, Deirdre Kennedy, Jaron Tager, Kristen Marino, Ray Arcadio, Andrew Ricci, Michael Difeo, Cara Christopher, David Ribyat, Bojana Coklyat, Andrea McKenna, and Melissa Cacioppo, among others. Progression will be on display at Art House Productions, at 1 McWilliams Square, through March 25 but will hold its opening night reception on March 2 from 7 to 10. The reception will also include live music by Craig Akin, Thrillington, and an avant garde ensemble.
For the hipster family crowd that has to be home early to get the kids in bed, Art House will also host Three Little Birds, a “happy hour” for kids earlier in the evening from 5 to 7. This program will include child-friendly music, dancing, and art on top of other fun surprises. According to the organizers Three Little Birds will be an oasis where families can unplug, get a little messy, meet new friends, and reconnect over a song for an hour or two.
