Hit-and-run in North Bergen leaves man in critical critical condition

NORTH BERGEN — A Butler man remains in “very” critical condition following a hit-and-run on Tonnelle Avenue last Friday at 11:45 p.m., North Bergen Police say.
Omar Monroig, 42, was struck by a “dark-colored” vehicle while crossing the street with another man to visit a restaurant and lounge on Tonnelle Avenue. The two were possibly intending to celebrate Monroig’s birthday, which occurred two days prior to the accident, police said.
According to Detective Frank Mena, Monroig was struck by the vehicle and carried roughly 110 feet northbound before coming to a stop in the road. Mena also said that police had no further leads on the hit-and-run suspect, save for an image capture of the “dark-colored” vehicle which did not capture the plate tag. – Stephen LaMarca
