Four Hudson County school districts to receive state funding for repairs
State School Development Authority (SDA) officials announced Monday that 21 school districts, including four in Hudson County, will receive funding for repairs and construction, according to NJ.com.
The SDA and the Department of Education reviewed the needs of facilities across 31 districts and prioritized the most critical.
The funding is part of the SDA’s Emergent Projects Program and will include repairs at two West New York Schools: P.S. 1 and P.S. 5.
Jersey City’s A. H. Moore School and School 30 will have exterior masonry work done, as well as work on the roofs of Ferris High School and School 25. School 25 will receive new windows and School 23 will receive a new boiler.
Harrison’s Hamilton Intermediate School will receive a roof and Washington Middle School will receive structural repairs.
Hoboken’s Joseph F. Brandt Primary School and Early Childhood Education will have exterior masonry work done.
UC Performing Arts Center to hold evening of jazz
The City of Union City, Mayor Brian P. Stack & Board of Commissioners, and the Union City Performing Arts Center proudly present the James Austin Trio in concert. An evening of live jazz music will be held Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. at the Union City Performing Arts Center located at 2500 Kennedy Blvd.

UCHS volleyball tournament raised funds for fire victims
On Friday, March 2, Union City High School hosted a Coordinated School Health (CSH) Program event to promote health awareness among students, staff, and the community. Faculty and students from Woodrow Wilson School, Emerson Middle School, Union Hill Middle School, Jose Marti Freshman Academy, and Union City High School participated in a volleyball tournament, with around 500 people in attendance, including parents.
All funds collected at the event will be donated to the victims of the Bergenline Avenue fire that destroyed residents’ homes in January.
CSH is a systematic approach to improving the health and well-being of all students so they can be successful in school. The process involves bringing together school administrators, teachers, staff, students, families, and community members to assess health needs, set priorities, and plan, implement, and evaluate all health-related activities. CSH is designed to promote the health of children and adolescents and reduce the risk of unhealthy behaviors. The program is funded through a five-year cooperative agreement awarded to the Department of Education in partnership with the Department of Health and Senior Services.
Union City to observe Women’s History Month
The William V. Musto Cultural Center will host a special event in observance of Women’s History Month on Saturday, March 24 at 7 p.m. at 420 15th St. Performers from the Woman’s Scream International Poetry Festival and the Women Poets International group will perform poetry, and there will be live music and refreshments.

Hudson Theatre Works to hold benefit evening
Hudson Theatre Works will hold a benefit evening on March 21 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Park Avenue Bar & Grill in Union City at 3417 Park Ave., near the Weehawken border. The fundraiser will support the theatre company and help to fully stage a play this coming year.
The evening’s events will be hosted by Nancy Giles from CBS News and will include performances by various artists, including actor Patrick Richwood, violinist Eric Grossman, woodwind players Alan Brady and Jeff Nichols, and readings by Nancy Giles, Greg Erbach, and Sean Patrick Riley.

UC Civic Association offers free income tax service
The Brian P. Stack Civic Association will offer free income tax service to residents in need of help on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 17 is the last day to file state and federal income taxes.

Segunda Quimbamba to hold dance and drum workshops
The Hudson County Office of Cultural Affairs will offer Puerto Rican dancing and drumming classes to adults and children over eight years of age at the Cobra Fencing Club located at 629 Grove St. in Jersey City. Classes will be held Sunday afternoons from March 18 through June 4. Dance classes will run from 2 to 3 p.m., and drum classes will run from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.
