Dear Editor:
The Union of Concerned Scientists have a plan to help us save on oil and our dependence on this nonrenewable resource. We consume over 20 percent of the world’s petroleum, yet we hold about 2 percent of the proven oil reserves. The Obama administration has taken action to cut U.S. oil consumerism by moving forward with strong new fuel efficiency and global warming emissions standards, which can save consumers thousands of dollars while decreasing America’s oil dependence by the millions.
By boosting the fuel economy of our vehicles, producing clean biofuels, expanding and improving public transportation options, and investing in the next generation of advanced vehicles that no longer rely exclusively on oil, we can cut America’s projected oil consumption in half by 2030.
Please support the Union of Concerned Scientists Oil Savings Plan to truly expand and improve our planet’s future energy resources and begin to reverse the environmental damage already done to our land, water, and air.
Sincerely,
Ms. Elizabeth LaBue
