Several Clinton Street fire families awaiting report
Seven out of the 51 displaced families from the Clinton Street fire will still have to wait two to three months to return home, according to Raul Morales, senior vice president for Applied Housing Management. Morales said that Applied’s “hands are tied” until they receive the inspection reports following an investigation of the fire, as well as permits to clean up the damages as a result of the firefighting effort.
The fire occurred on the fourth floor of the building on March 17. Morale said that some of the families are either staying with friends, family, or at the Howard Johnson Hotel at 1300 Tonnelle Ave. in North Bergen.
According to Morales, 21 doors were replaced, and nearly 40 of the families have already moved back into the building. Morales said that within two weeks, all but seven families will be able to move back in.
“I want to thank [Hoboken Fire] Chief [Richard] Bloom and the whole fire department for keeping this fire within one floor,” said Morales, who also added that he would like to especially thank Joel Mestre, coordinator for the Office of Emergency Management.
“[Joel] went beyond the extra mile for the tenants for us,” said Morales. “He was calling us every day and night.”

2012-2013 Board of Education budget adopted
A $63 million 2012-2013 school board budget was adopted at the Board of Education meeting Tuesday.
According to Board President Rose Markle, the tax levy, at $36.4 million, has remained flat for the past three years.
Library book sale dates announced
Weather permitting, the Friends of the Hoboken Public Library will hold book sales in front of the Hoboken Public Library on the following Saturdays: March 31, April 14, and April 28. The Friends will also hold a book sale on Sunday, May 6, at the Hoboken Arts and Music Festival.
