I just read your excellent article in a recent Jersey City Reporter about Councilman Fulop. It is good to have our local press covering public officials and candidates for office in an in-depth way. The issues and elections our city faces are very important to our future. And although having lived here “only” 25 years (I guess that makes me a “newcomer”) I would like to make the following comments.
Your article raised important issues and certainly tried to be objective. However, I would like to point out that while all of the commenters quoted in the article in support of Councilman Fulop provided their complete names, it seems that none of the people voicing criticism of Councilman Fulp gave theirs. I think that says something about their willingness to “go on the record” about their opinions as opposed to making anonymous unjustified criticisms.
No one wants to see people lose their jobs. And government and the services it provides are essential to all of us. But it’s also important to make sure government is run efficiently and effectively and we need to be allowed to have that discussion and, where justified, make necessary changes.
It is also worth pointing out that while Councilman Fulop has made his living in the financial industry your article failed to mention that right after the 911 attacks he left that “comfortable” Wall Street job to join the U.S. Marines, participating in the invasion of Baghdad, before coming home to Jersey City to begin a life in public service as well as continuing his career in finance. That’s the kind of character we need here, not anonymous opinion providers.
Thanks again to you and the Reporter for covering the issues and candidates in a responsible way. The citizens of our city need to be informed and having an objective, free, working press is essential to our city and country. I look forward to your continuing coverage.
