Dear Editor:
I just read the letter to this column (May 8) by attorney Jack Gillman and his attempt to defend North Bergen mayor, North Bergen Assistant School Superintendent and State Senator Nick Sacco and his payout for “unused” sick days. I could appreciate Mr. Gillman, an attorney for the North Bergen Board of Education, coming to the defense of one who probably is responsible for “buttering his bread” but to describe the triple dipper as “a highly dedicated and hardworking public official” is I think, a little too much.
Since Mr. Gillman is so concerned about “facts” is it not a fact that the attorney for the North Bergen Board of Education is the law office of Joseph Ryglicki by whom Mr. Gillman is employed? Also, that Joseph Ryglicki has for many years been the attorney for the school board and recently retired with a pension in six figures? Then, guess what, more facts Mr. Gillman, the North Bergen board, after the retirement of Joseph Ryglicki, hires the law office of the retired Joseph Ryglicki, as the attorney for the school board. Wow, nice work if you can get it, right Mr. Gillman?
One more question for Mr. Gillman. As the attorney for the school board what is your position as to the other Assistant Superintendent of Schools, football coach Vincent Ascolese, and the alleged recruitment of star football players to come to North Bergen. According to the news story in the Jersey Journal (May 4) the NJSIAA, the state governing body for high school sports, issued a report as to recruitment of football players for North Bergen. Ascolese is quoted as follows: “Since the beginning, I’ve always said that I’ve never recruited any football player in all my years I think this report validates that.” The story then states that the report found that Ascolese’s daughter, son and grandson, may have recruited the players to North Bergen.
What do you think, school board attorney Jack Gillman? Did the coach recruit these football players or was it his daughter, son and grandson who did it without any input from him? Another question Mr. Gillman, is the Ascolese example one that should be set for the students in North Bergen?
