Hudson Catholic gets freeholder accolades

BAYONNE – Celebrating Hudson Catholic’s 2012 Hudson County Boys Basketball Tournament Championship against their four-time winning cross-town rivals St. Peter’s Prep, the Hudson County Freeholders passed a resolution at their last meeting in May.
This split the board in a humorous way since some of them were loyal St. Peter’s Prep fans.
Freeholder Bill O’Dea recalled saying in the past that he would honor Hudson Catholic if they won the county championship.
“Next year you’ll have to do even better,” he said, egging the team members on.
Hudson Catholic beat St. Peter’s Prep by a final score of 67-54 after trailing their rival at half time 32-25. This championship camped a 23-2 season that included 19 straight victories and gave Hudson Catholic its firs county title since 1975.
This year’s team was coached by Nick Mariniello, and the team consisted of Mark Wilson, Grant Ellis, Reggie Cameron, Mike Young, Rakwan Kelly, Travis Flagg, Kyle McLeggan, Kavon Stewart, Safee Sabur, JR Lynch, Med Fofana, Nassir Barrino, and Richard Chapman.
Although located in Jersey City, Hudson Catholic draws students from around Hudson County.
