Ship seized because of possible stowaways

BAYONNE AND BEYOND — Suspected stowaways on an inbound cargo ship to Port Newark prompted authorities to escort the vessel into dock, where federal immigration, Homeland Security and officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey were set to investigate. The ship was escorted by a number of vessels, including those of the US Coast Guard, which operates out of a facility in Bayonne.
“It’s being handled by Port Authority and others,” said Bayonne Public Safety Director Jason O’Donnell. “We’ve been kept informed, but the Bayonne Police are not involved.”
