A funeral mass was offered June 8 at St. Mary’s Church, Jersey City, for Nicholas J. Custado, 91, affectionately known as Nick. He passed away June 5 at his residence. He was the son of the late Vito and Marie Custado and brother of the late Anthony and Theresa. He worked for Moore and McCormack Steamship Company for 29 years. He was an usher at St. Mary’s Church, (now a part of Resurrection Parish) in the downtown section of Jersey City for 50 years. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, serving in Rome, Arno, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre, and in the Southern France Invasion, where he received an Arrowhead for the initial invasion. He also received four battle stars and New Jersey’s highest award medal for Distinguished Service. He was a charter member of the National WWII Memorial. He was a recipient of a number of scholastic and sports awards. Services arranged by the Greenville Memorial Home, Jersey City.
