A funeral mass was held June 12 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, Jersey City, for Edward John Bergen, Jr., 81. He passed away, with his family at his side on June 8. He was born in Jersey City, and was a resident of Carteret. Edward was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1949 to 1953. He served his country and continued his support of his fellow veterans serving those in the VA hospitals as a visitor and volunteer. He was a lifelong employee of the US Postal Service retiring, in 1990 from the position of the manager of transportation in Jersey City NJINNDC. Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Edward John Bergen Senior and Florence Bergen; his sisters, Babe (Florence), Marie, Bernadette; his brother Thomas; and his great grandchildren Leif and Ariella Trease. Edward is survived by his spouse, Madelyn Bergen; his five children, Edward, Anne, Michael, Victor and Christopher; his stepchildren Rachel and Michael; his brothers, Eugene, Jack and sisters Peggy, Helen and Geraldine; as well as 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
