Union City and Secaucus pools open to Hoboken residents

The Union City Pool, at Ninth St. and Palisades Avenue, is open to Hoboken residents Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Residents can use the pool for free until Sept. 4.
Additionally, Hoboken residents may use the Secaucus municipal pool at a reduced rate by filling out an application. Visit www.hobokennj.org for more information.

Party with Purpose to host 5K this week

Party with Purpose will host a 5K race in Hoboken Tuesday, July 17 along the waterfront. The event will support local youth charities, including the Jubilee Center and the Hoboken Boys & Girls Club.
A fun run and other special kid’s events will take place before the runners begin at 3:30 p.m., and an after-party will be held in Pier A Park.
Registration is $30. The race will begin at 7 p.m. Medals will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers per age group.

Summerstage Pro presents Les Miserables

Hoboken Children’s Theater’s new summer program, SummerStage Pro, will present Les Miserable July 17 to July 21 at the Monroe Theatrespace at 720 Monroe St.
A student edition, the play is directed by stars of the Broadway production, including Lisa Capps, Don Brewer, and Randy Glass.
In its inaugural season, SummerStage Pro is a free program for teens and young adults from all over New Jersey and New York City.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. July 17 to July 20; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 21.

Hoboken University Medical Center and others sponsor ‘Fight Night 2012’

Hoboken University Medical Center, Everlast, and LA Boxing are sponsors for “Fight Night 2012” at the W Hotel on Monday, July 16 at 7:30 p.m. The event will feature a card of amateur fights sanctioned by the New Jersey Association of USA Boxing. Ticket packages range from general admission standing room tickets, priced at $25, to ringside seats with dinner at ZYLO for $165.

20th Annual National Night Out scheduled for Aug. 7

The 20th Annual National Night Out events will take place in Hoboken on Tuesday, Aug. 7
Hosted by Hoboken Police Chief Anthony P. Falco Sr., the event aims to heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnership, and send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Hudson Shakespeare Company comes to Sinatra Park

The Hudson Shakespeare Company will perform “Comedy of Errors” Monday, July 16 and Monday, July 23 in Sinatra Park a 7 p.m. The play is an “absurd farce” with an ancient Greek setting and a “Looney Tunes” edge, according to a release.
The troupe will also perform “Cardenio,” Monday, Aug. 6 and Monday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in Sinatra Park.
The play, according to a release, is a cross between Shakespeare and the “Zorro” franchise.
Patrons are invited to bring a lawn chair or blanket.
