UNION CITY – Mariano Alfaro, 49, died after falling from his two-story 30th Street apartment window in Union City at 12:57 a.m. Monday morning. Two independent witnesses saw him rocking back and forth in the window eating food when he accidentally fell, Union City Police Chief Brian Barrett said Tuesday.
“The investigation indicated there was no foul play,” Barrett added. “He was alone in the room, and officers had to force entry as the door was dead-bolted from the inside. There was also alcohol present in the room.”
He added that police are awaiting a toxicology report to determine whether or not alcohol played a role in Alfaro’s accidental death.
“It’s a tragedy and a shame,” Barrett said. — Gennarose Pope
