EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND

North Bergen legend, John R. Tully AKA, Ray Tully celebrated his 98th birthday on Thursday May 17 with close friends and family. Born and raised in Union City, Ray grew up during the Depression, worked the ship yards during WWII and eventually landed a job at the famous Top Hat Club, located on Kennedy Blvd. His stories of celebrities and local legends are endless and often amusing. He knew and mingled with everyone from Ed Sullivan to legs Diamond. While working at the Top Hat he met and fell in love with North Bergen resident, Florence Jialdini. Soon they married and Ray moved “down the hill” to become a lifelong North Bergen fixture. Florence and Ray were married for more than 50 years before her untimely death. Lifelong Yankee fan, Ray was a fixture at Yankee Stadium, watching the game from the bleachers. These days, Ray loves to hang out at Six Corners Café in North Bergen, where he holds court telling stories of a bygone era. Ray is always smiling and has a great sense of humor. His laugh is infectious and he brightens the day of all who he talks with. Café owner Adriana Guia loves Ray’s attention to detail and sharp mind. “He can tell you exact details of all his stories, which are truly fascinating.”
