A funeral mass took place July 19 at Our Lady of Mercy Church for John ‘Jack’ F. Gillick, Jr., 73. He passed away July 15 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Jersey City. He was the owner of Gillick Investigations, an independent insurance and legal investigation agency. He was also employed as an investigator for The City of Jersey City with the Legal Department and The Sanitation Department, where he also served as The Chief of Sanitation. Jack owned Gillick’s Tavern on Clendenny Avenue in Jersey City from 1970 to 1985. He was a member of The Loyal Order of the Moose No. 266 and The Ancient Order of Hibernians. Jack served in The Army National Guard in The Vietnam era. He was predeceased by his parents The Hon. John F. Gillick, Sr. and Mary Agnes Gillick. Jack is survived by his wife, Barbara Gillick and his children, Ronnie Marte, Mary Ellen Gillick and the late Thomas K. Lee. He is the brother of Mary Claire Reck and her husband Clem, and James C. Gillick and his wife Nancy. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Gillick Sabbers; brother in law of William Sabbers, Ann Wentway, and Victor and Vicky Ciancia. Also surviving is a son in law, Alex Marte. Jack was the grandfather of Bailey Shannon Davin and John E. Nazzario. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
