Third annual Giants blood drive expected to draw 800 New York Football Giants fans

MEADOWLANDS – The New York Football Giants have teamed up with the American Red Cross to host their Third Annual blood drive presented by Bob’s Discount Furniture on Saturday, Aug. 25 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.
All presenting donors will receive a limited edition Giants t-shirt, a chance to have their photo taken with the Giants Super Bowl XLVI Trophy, and interact with many Giants legends that are in attendance. Those scheduled to attend throughout the day include Stephen Baker, Greg Comella, Keith Hamilton, Brian Kelley and Jeff Feagles. Free parking will also be available for all donors at the event.
Throughout the day, numerous randomly selected blood donors will win autographed NY Giants items and have the chance to walk away with a brand new reclining chair provided by Bob’s Discount Furniture.
Fans will also be able to tour the Legacy Club, a Giants’ interactive team museum, which includes artefacts from throughout the team’s history, including the team’s Super Bowl and NFC Championship trophies, as well as a brand new display dedicated to the team’s 2011 championship season.
Twenty-four hours a day, the Red Cross supplies lifesaving blood and medical support to more than 100 area hospitals. Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. As the nation’s single largest supplier of blood and blood products, the Red Cross is dedicated to ensuring that every patient who needs a lifesaving transfusion is able to receive one. In fact, the Red Cross must collect more than 17,000 units of blood each day to meet the needs of patients at more than 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers across the country. It is the blood on the shelves today that helps save lives tomorrow.
While walk-ins are always welcome, donors are highly encouraged to schedule an appointment in advance to help minimize wait times and to ensure they have ample time for photo opportunities. A limited number of appointments are available. For more info, visit: www.redcrossblood.org/giants or call 1 (800) RED CROSS (1 (800) 733-2767) to schedule an appointment.
