HOBOKEN — New Jersey Transit was not permitted to present their redevelopment plan at a City Council workshop Wednesday night, until the last 15 minutes, after many people had left. The workshop was intended to be a chance for both the city and New Jersey Transit to propose their differing visions for the downtown terminal and rail yards from Observer Blvd. to Marin Blvd. Redevelopment of the area has been the subject of an ongoing ddebate between the the two entities since 2008. Both plans were presented at a City Council meeting last week and a follow-up workshop was announced to invite public feedback before deliberation from the council.
While the city was able to present, NJ Transit was not. Instead they were told to circulate print copies of their plan, which included revisions not yet seen by the public, to members of council only. NJ Transit and some members of the public and council complained about this situation.
