RAIDO, JOHN G.

Funeral mass was offered Sept. 24 at St. Michael’s Church for John G. Raido, 72. He passed away surrounded by his wife and family at Jersey City Medical Center on Sept. 19. Though born in Sayre, Pa., John was raised in Jersey City and remained a local boy of his city where he graduated from Snyder High School, married and raised his family. He was a father who loved to watch his son perform in his band and would happily follow wherever the venue. He was a grandfather who never tired of being with his grandchildren. A neighborhood fixture who loved his friends, neighbors and former classmates, John was to have recently attended the 50th High School Reunion for his graduating class of Snyder High School. He was painting foreman for the Jersey City Board of Education, retiring in 2009 after 27 years of service. John was an avid bowler for the Joe Morley League for 35 years and the Memorial League for five years. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trade Local 377 and a lifelong parishioner of St. Michael’s Church. John is survived by his wife and best friend, Mary (Cusick) Raido, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage this past Valentine’s Day; son, John P. Raido and his wife Barbara; grandchildren, Daniel and Kaitlyn Raido and their mother Roseanna; brothers Victor and Edward Raido and his wife JoAnn; his sister in law Kathleen Agostino; his dog, Maggie May and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Catherine Raido; brother, Kenneth Raido; brother in law, Robert Agostino and his canine companion, Gypsy. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
