HOBOKEN — The Oct. 3 resignation of Hoboken Councilwoman-At-Large Carol Marsh has left a vacant seat on the nine-member City Council. City spokesman Juan Melli said Thursday that the appointment process is governed by the Municipal Vacancy Law. The law states the governing body can nominate and vote for a replacement. If there is a tie vote, the mayor has the ultimate decision.
With Marsh gone, the council has four members who support Mayor Dawn Zimmer, and four who frequently criticize her initiatives.
Melli said that he did not know who the frontrunner was for the seat. He said it could be voted upon as soon as the Oct. 3 council meeting.
