North Bergen sports registration begins Monday
Boys’ and girls’ basketball registration will be held at North Bergen Recreation, 6300 Meadowview Ave., on Monday, Oct. 15 and continue through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Evening meetings are also scheduled on Oct. 18 and Oct. 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. The registration fee is $35, which is non-refundable, and open to ages 5 to 16. Cash and money orders only are accepted. A birth certificate and proof of residency are required.
Wrestling registration open to ages 6 to 14 begins on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and Oct. 23, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pop Warner Building. Age 6 registers must be that age by Dec. 31.The building is located on 6302 Meadowview Ave. A birth certificate, proof of residency and a $35 non-refundable registration fee are required.

Walk the Hudson Riverfront Walkway with experts
On Sunday, Oct. 14, the Hudson River Waterfront Conservatory will conduct a three-mile Walk on the Walkway of Weehawken and Hoboken from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Guests will meet in Pershing Park, Weehawken, reached from Port Imperial Boulevard at Carlyle Court. The park is located behind 1500 Port Imperial Blvd. A donation of $5 is requested.
Members of the Conservatory Board will be on hand to tell the story of the Walkway and the efforts made over the years to complete the 18.5 linear mile public walkway. Bus Excursion to Amish Country next weekend
The German-American World Historical Society is sponsoring a bus excursion from North Bergen to Amish Country, Lancaster, Pa., on Saturday, Oct. 20. The one-day trip is open to the general public. The cost of the trip is $54 per adult and $45 for children 4 to 12 years of age. Included in the trip is round-trip transportation by motor coach, an all-you-can-eat family-style luncheon at Good ‘N Plenty Restuarant, two hour guided tour through the Amish farm lands, stop-off at Kitchen Kettle Village and refreshments on the bus. The bus will leave from the Senator Lounge in Schuetzen Park, 3161 Kennedy Blvd.

New Jersey Meadowlands Commission schedules Events
NJMC will offer “Hawks, Owls and Eagles…Oh, My!” on Sunday, Oct. 14 from 1 to 3 p.m. The staff of Tenafly Nature Center will show guests several live raptors up-close. Guests will learn about raptor behavior, physiology, adaptations, ecological importance and natural history. This demonstration will capture the imagination for all ages. Admission is $7 per person and $5 for MEC members. It will be held at Meadowlands Environment Center at Two DeKorte Park Plaza in Lyndhurst.

Help the NJMC celebrate the publication of its new coffee-table book, “The Nature of the Meadowlands” on Monday, Oct. 15 from 7 to 8 p.m. The NJMC will present a free talk and book signing by author Jim Wright of the NJMC and former Gov. Thomas Kean, who wrote the book’s foreword. Governor Kean will speak about the environmental recovery that the book chronicles. Wright will talk about the book and give a preview of its striking nature photography and rare archival images at the Meadowlands Environmental Center on Two DeKorte Park Plaza in Lyndhurst.

Nature Walks with the NJMC and BCAS will be held on the third Tuesday of the month, Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 10 a.m. This free two-hour guided nature walk takes you to Losen Slote Creek Park in Little Ferry, where you’ll look for fall migrants. Palisades Medical Center offers Maternity and CPR Classes
Palisades Medical Center offers maternity, CPR classes.
The child birth classes cost $125 per couple if delivering at PMC; $150 if delivering elsewhere. Classes include understanding the labor process, breathing and relaxation techniques to work with your body, the role of the support person, options for pain medications and medical interventions, Caesarean birth, understand your changing body after birth, newborn appearance and procedures after birth.
Newborn Baby Care Classes cost $25 per couple if delivering at PMC; $50 if delivering elsewhere. The basics of newborn care will be discussed, starting with the appearance and characteristics of a newborn. Other topics include: bonding, understanding cues, crying, colic, safety measures, health and development, sponge bathing, and bathing. You’ll practice swaddling, dressing and diapering.
Keys to Successful Breastfeeding classes are $35 per couple if delivering at PMC; $50 if delivering elsewhere.
Mommy and Baby Care Group requires no registration and meets every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New mothers with babies ages 2 weeks to 16 weeks can get information and support in this group. The Mommy and Baby Care Group is led by a board-certified lactation consultant to offer breastfeeding support.
There will be Sibling Preparation for Birth Class and Pizza Party which costs $10. This is a fun and effective way to teach soon-to-be siblings ages 3 and up all about babies.
Lastly, there will be Friends & Family CPR/choking classes which cost $25 per person.
