“Once A Redwing, Always A Redwing”

Dear Editor:
Hoboken High School has long been a stalwart of excellence and service to the community, and so it is fitting that on the weekend of September 28 and 29 we held a celebration to mark it’s bicentennial. To mark this celebration, we held an inspirational in-school assembly, a fundraiser cocktail celebration at the Kolo Klub, a high-spirited Alumni football game and fun filled block party. As part of the festivities, we have formed an Alumni Scholarship Fund, to award to a deserving senior who exemplifies the Redwing tradition of excellence and service. This celebration was a major undertaking, yet a labor of love.
We would like to acknowledge those who helped us to make this occasion a true success. For recognizing Hoboken High School with proclamations of excellence in education: Ruben Ramos and the NJ Joint Legislative Body, Anthony Romano and the Board of Chosen Freeholders, Mayor Dawn Zimmer and the Hoboken City Council. For sharing their time and talents and inspiring the student body: Police Chief Anthony Falco, Margo Singaliese, Teacher and Master Thespian Fire Captain (retired) Frank Guzman Carmelo Garcia, Hoboken Board of Education member Irene Sobalov, Hoboken Board of Education member Peter Ising and The HHS Alumni All-Star Band: Tom Fitzgibbons, Irio O’Farrell, Julio Fernandez, and Jean Roman Patrick Jude and Deandra Soto For coordinating the Alumni football game: Mr. Charles “Buddy” Matthews Gary Enrico and the Alumni Marching Band, David and the spirited Redwing Cheerleaders, Ivan Ramos and all of the Alumni Athletes For assisting with the Block Party: Tim Calligy and the entire custodial staff Leo Pelligrine, all of the student organizations and their advisors, the vendors Music In-Live Productions. The following Hoboken businesses for their donations of goods and services: The Madison, San Giuseppe, Three A’s, Leo’s, East LA, Nappoli’s, Metropolitan Nails, The Skyclub Health and Fitness, Lorraine’s House of Style, Trim, The Guitar Bar, Stan’s Sporting Goods, Avante’ Salon, Garden Wine and Liquor, Augie’s Liquor, and Ann at CBS Productions. For their generous cash donations: Ms. Margaret Gaynor, Mr. Joseph Hottendorf and the Liberty Board of Realtors.
Finally, we would like to thank all of the students and alumni for coming out and being a part of the great tradition that is Hoboken High School. If you wish to make a donation to the HHS Scholarship Fund, you can still do so by contacting us at Hoboken High or through the Hoboken Public School Employee Credit Union. “Once a Redwing, Always a Redwing”
