Secaucus issues severe weather alert

SECAUCUS AND BEYOND – The municipality of Secaucus has issued a severe weather alert for residents to prepare for the storm that is expected to hit this area Sunday, according to a press statement.
The National Weather Service has put out a severe weather alert for the entire East Coast. Hurricane Sandy, dubbed the “Perfect Storm” is traveling up through the North East this weekend. Forecasters are confident that Sandy will be a threat to NY, NJ, DC and Boston and make a direct hit by Monday. There is the potential for heavy rain, and strong winds, with storm tides and coastal flooding beginning Sunday and continuing into early next week.
The municipality advises residents to keep emergency supplies including non-perishable foods, water, and fresh batteries in a radio. Residents should also store patio furniture and secure all outdoor items. To stay updated, people can listen to emergency broadcasts on the radio as well as the local cable channel 36, or visit the town website www.secaucusnj.org. Also, residents should listen for the town wide alert system located in the plaza, Koelle Boulevard, Laurel Hill and Secaucus Road.
The town has an emergency preparedness plan in place for severe weather conditions. With the cooperation of Meadowlands Hospital and the coordination of the local, County and State Office of Emergency Management, the municipality has a mobile medical triage unit ready to set-up as needed. Huber Street School is also a designated shelter equipped with cots, generators, and other medical equipment.
