Fifth annual 5K a success

To the Editor:

The family of James N. Rentas wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to the residents of Bayonne and beyond for supporting our fifth annual 5K run/walk for cancer research. This year’s participation was the largest yet. We are overwhelmed with the love and support from our family, friends and community. It is exciting to report that the number of participants has grown from approximately 300 in 2008 to over 700 in 2012! How wonderfully rewarding! We want to express how heartwarming it is to see so many helping to keep our Jimmy’s memory alive, along with that of your loved ones.
From our super sponsors to all the extremely generous donations and gift certificates, we are truly grateful. We will never be able to thank our volunteers for all their hard work and dedication. You are the best. And last but certainly not least, a great big thank you to all the participants, without whom this day could not happen.
Too many of us have been touched by this horrific disease in some way. It is because of this that we all work so hard to raise funds for Dr. Nancy Kemeny’s Pump Research Fund at MSKCC. We are confident that Dr. Kemeny along with other researchers will someday find a cure. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s 5K, scheduled for Sept. 22, 2013.
