NORTH BERGEN – Omar Monroig was struck by a car at the intersection of 51st and Tonnelle Avenue on March 23, and died on April 1, just days after his 42nd birthday. The driver is still at large. Monroig’s family and friends are still trying to obtain any leads that would result in the capture of the driver who ended Omar’s life.
Marybell Monroig and his family have announced the increase of the reward from $10,000 to $20,000.
“My hope is that this will create leads for the North Bergen Police to further investigate this fatal accident,” said Marybell Monroig. “Our son, myself, and the family are trying to bring awareness to this case. Hopefully, someone who may have missed the article or the news has information to share to help solve it.”
A sketch was distributed to the media on April 13 from a witness account which has yet to lead to the driver in question. North Bergen police have notified body shops, glass shops and other locations about the vehicle they are seeking, which is a dark-colored 2001 to 2004 Toyota Camry. They have checked video footage from Tonnelle Avenue, which is how they obtained a description of the vehicle. A list has been generated of all vehicles that met the criteria which was later expanded.
