Dear Editor:
I rarely voice my opinion because I admittedly do not get involved enough to have all the data. So I’m simply voicing my opinion about the school board, not about a person but rather an observation, an aspiration about the board itself. We have an amazing community, with great people and families, close to NYC, a place people envy and a school that doesn’t even come close to reaching its potential. And when I watch school board meetings over the years, I’m always disheartened that such minimal time is spent discussing ideas and actions to engage and inspire our students, brainstorming ways we can support and expect best in class education curriculum and teachers. Discussing actionable ways to create a stimulating, inspiring, challenging and nurturing environment for our children seems to take a backseat to politics and finger pointing. And its beyond disappointing.
I know that it is unrealistic to expect that just because people are on a shared board to expect they will always have a unified vision style and philosophy but it doesn’t seem like focus is on the children and the education. And I’m really hopeful that a new board if elected, or those who are re-elected can move beyond past behavior, prioritize and focus on what should be most important to anyone who gets involved with a school board – making it an environment of excellence for everyone.
