DeBARI, ANTHONY F.

A funeral mass will be offered Nov. 19 at St. Francis R.C. Church in Hoboken for Anthony F. DeBari, 79. He passed away in the presence of his family at the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood on Nov. 16. Born in New York City, “Tony,” as he was known, operated the famous DeBari Pastry Shop in Hoboken which was established by his parents Stefano and Carmela DeBari in 1930, retiring in 1995. The pastry shop was certainty a Hoboken legend. During his years of work there, many of the operational necessities were shared with Tony by his late wife Rose who predeceased him in 2000. Aside from being a baker, Tony’s benevolence to the city of Hoboken will be remembered, for his long service as a Board of Education member under the mayoralties of Grogan, DePasquele, Cappiello and Passculi. He will be missed by his daughter Carmela Mezzina and her husband Alfred, his son Steven and his wife Sharon; his five grandchildren, Melissa O’Sullivan and her husband Kevin, Stephanie DeBari, Vincent Mezzina and his wife Mariell, and Danielle and Cara Rose DeBari; a great granddaughter Addison also survives him, as well as an cousin, Josephine DeBari. Services arranged by the Failla Memorial Home, Hoboken.
