Marching band festival rescheduled for Sunday

Around 10 high school bands from around the state will march onto the field of Weehawken High School’s Ferullo Stadium on Sunday afternoon to take part in the fourth Annual Weehawken Invitational Band Festival.
A list of participating schools has not yet been finalized, but Weehawken’s Music Director and band leader Michael Lichtenfeld confirmed that his band would be the show’s grand finale, performing from a repertoire entitled “Sights & Sounds of New York.” Their performance will include popular favorites such as “New York, New York,” “Take the A Train,” “Harlem Nocturne,” and “Birdland.”
The Weehawken band is enjoying a very successful 2012 fall season. On Oct. 13, they won first place in their division at the Yamaha Cup, a marching band competition held at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands, and on Nov. 3 competed in USBANDS’ N.J. state championships.
“All of them understand that they’re not in competition with the other schools as much as they’re in competition with themselves,” Lichtenfeld said. “We try to make each performance better than our last.”
