Uniforms

Question: In high school volleyball, uniforms of Team S consist of gray shirts, black shorts and gray compression shorts beneath the shorts. Legal color schemes?
Answer: Illegal color for compression shorts. Color must match the predominant color of uniform bottom (black). Penalty – unnecessary delay and loss of rally/point awarded to opponent at start of match. Play continues during match and state association is to be notified (Rule 4, Sec. 2, Art. 1(c), Pen. 4).

Question: During a set, referee notices player on Team R has uniform shirt tied in a knot for a fitted look. Is this legal uniform wear?
Answer: Uniforms are to be worn as intended by manufacturer. Referee will request player to remove knot for safety reasons as well without penalty (Rule 4, Sec. 2, Art. 1(d)).
