I would like to let you and the readers of your publication to know about a very important appropriation I’ve been working on lately. Assembly Bill 3369 is a bill that appropriates the final round of Green Acres funding to DEP-approved projects throughout the state. I am a sponsor of this legislation because it would fund much-needed improvements to Elysian Park in Hoboken, and other crucial parks projects in Jersey City, Union City, and Weehawken.
This appropriation bill has been moving through the legislative process, but still has several steps to go through before any municipality can gain access any of the funds. In the Assembly, A3369 has been released unanimously from the Environment Committee and is awaiting consideration by the Appropriations Committee. If it is approved by that Committee, the entire Assembly must vote to disburse the funds. Additionally, the Senate must also vote to pass the appropriation. If and when both houses pass the legislation, the bill must then be signed into law by the Governor.
Only when the Governor gives final approval for the disbursement of the Green Acres funding can we access the grant to refurbish Elysian Park and other parks in our area. While I am confident that the appropriation will receive both legislative and executive approval, no individual can yet claim that they have secured these funds.
As a primary sponsor of the appropriation bill, I will continue to work to advance this important funding through the appropriation process until the funding has been officially secured.
