RICCARDI, BENEDICT J.

A funeral mass was offered Nov. 26 at St John’s Church, Lakehurst, for Benedict J. Riccardi, 86, of Renaissance, Manchester. He died Nov. 19 at Community Medical Center, Toms River. He was a police officer for 44 years with the Jersey City Police Department before retiring in 1991 as lieutenant. Afterwards, he worked for five years as an investigator with the Office of the Attorney General, Division of Consumer Affairs. He was past President of the Honor Legion of New Jersey and the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 4. He was a past commander of the VFW Police Post 810. While living in Renaissance, he belonged to both the Men’s Club and the Shields. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a parishioner of St. John’s Church, Lakehurst. Born in Jersey City, he lived there for most of his life before moving to Manchester in 1998. He was predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Marie Riccardi, an infant son, Michael, and a sister, Elaine Iaccarino. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Eileen Riccardi; four children, Lois Anne and Andrew Gross, James and Patricia Riccardi, Mary Ellen and John Branagan, and Martin Riccardi; also surviving is his sister, Marjorie Buttery and nine grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Matthew, John, Lisa, Katie, Daniel, Valerie, and Steven.
