Hudson Reporter holiday advertising, editorial deadlines
Because of the holidays over the next week, the Hudson Reporter newspapers will have special advertising and editorial deadlines.
For the Wednesday, Dec. 26 edition of the Bayonne Community News and the Thursday, Dec. 27 edition of the Midweek Reporter, the editorial deadline is 9 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 21. The classified and display advertising deadlines are noon on Friday, Dec. 21.
The office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25. It will reopen Wednesday, Dec. 26.
For the Sunday, Dec. 30 edition of the Hudson Reporter “Year in Review” all-county edition, the classified deadline is noon on Wednesday, Dec. 26 and the advertising deadline is 5 p.m.
For the Wednesday, Jan. 2 edition of the Bayonne Community News and the Thursday, Jan. 3 Midweek Reporter, the classified and display advertising deadline is noon on Friday, Dec. 28.
The office will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, and will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
For the Sunday, Jan. 6 edition of the Hudson Reporter “Year in Pictures,” the advertising deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2

PATH restores partial service; free shuttle and parking
The PATH train from Hoboken to 33rd Street resumed operation at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, after becoming flooded during Hurricane Sandy and being down for nearly two months. It will operate seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. The restoration of full 24/7 PATH service to 33rd Street is expected by the end of the year in time for New Year’s Eve.
However, direct PATH service between Hoboken and the World Trade Center remains several weeks away pending ongoing repairs.
“The reopening of the Hoboken PATH station is a tremendous relief for our commuters and local businesses,” said Mayor Dawn Zimmer. “Hoboken is open for business and we welcome and encourage our residents and visitors to support the local shops that make our community great. I thank the Port Authority for their nonstop work to restore service and NJ Transit for accommodating our commuters during this incredibly difficult time.”
The city is providing free garage parking and a weekend shopping shuttle to encourage local shopping.
Free parking was made available in municipal garages B (28 2nd St), D (215 Hudson St) and Midtown (371 4th St) seven days a week during the month of December between the hours of 9am and midnight. To receive up to four hours of free parking, visitors must present to the parking attendant a receipt for at least $20 from any Hoboken business during these hours. Any time beyond four hours will be charged at the regular rate.
Also, the City Council passed a resolution on Wednesday to allow for free meter-less parking between 12:01 a.m. on Dec. 20, 2013 through 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2013.
A special free holiday hop shuttle will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday in December. The shuttle will travel along Hoboken’s commercial districts of Washington Street, First Street and 14th Street.
CarePoint Health Foundation donates $25K
The CarePoint Health Foundation presented the United Way of Hudson County with a $25,000 check on Monday at Hoboken University Medical Center.
Hoboken University Medical Center, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, and Bayonne Medical Center CEO’s Paul Walker, Peter Kelly, and Dr. Mark Spektor presented the check to Dan Atillo, President of the United Way of Hoboken to aid local victims of Hurricane Sandy. The presentation was held at Hoboken University Medical Center, where it was also announced that their radiology group has made a $2,500 donation on top of the presented check.
“We have an obligation to the communities we serve to respond during times of crisis,” said Dan Kane, President of the CarePoint Health Foundation. “Many of our residents have been impacted by Hurricane Sandy and relief efforts through philanthropic dollars are one way for us to help.

Hoboken ShopRite to reopen in February
According to a press release received last week, spokespeople for the ShopRite in Hoboken say the store will reopen in February after suffering from extensive damage from Hurricane Sandy.
The store is one of four supermarkets in Hoboken. Shoppers may also patronize the A&P, or two Kings Fresh locations. However, with approximately 50,000 residents in Hoboken, all stores are well used.
According to the release, “Like the countless residents and businesses owners in this square mile hamlet who have had to tear down and rebuild, ShopRite is committed to remaining an integral part of the community.”
Larry Inserra, president of Inserra Supermarkets, said, “While we have no set date yet, we anticipate a grand reopening in February. My family and I have served our Hoboken neighbors for nearly 10 years and we are very pleased to continue to provide them with great food, low prices and unparalleled customer service.”
The release said that the ShopRite of Hoboken is currently in the midst of a complete renovation, and listed many services that will be improved and added.
Empire Realty Group feeds senior citizens of Hoboken
Empire Realty Group, LLC, in association with Whitestone Properties and Lili’s Parties, helped prepare and serve over 100 senior citizens at the Elks Club on Friday, Dec. 7. Chef Paul Fried of Whitestone, with the help of Empire realtors, created and prepared the menu of lasagna and salad with bread donated by Dom’s Bakery. Hoboken singer Angelo Cerrone entertained with several of the guests taking over the karaoke machine during the course of the meal.
The event is usually held at Hoboken’s multi-service center but the center was badly damaged due to Hurricane Sandy. The Elks Club generously donated their space for the event.
Finishing off the meal were two holiday cakes donated by Carlo’s Bakery.
