Painting the town red

Washington Street saw a lot of red uniforms on Monday afternoon. A parade was held to celebrate both the Hoboken High School football championship (see cover) and the Red Wings lightweight division victories. The parade kicked off at 3:30 p.m. at Eleventh and Washington streets and continued to City Hall. Head coach for the high school Lou Taglieri was present with his son in tow.
“This is our first [win] since 2008,” said Taglieri. “We went through some adversity, but we were able to recover just as the town was able to recover. It’s a credit to the kids. They stood together and played 11 as one. They were a family on that field.”

The most valuable player, running back and HHS senior Donte Carter, said at the parade that he has been playing football since he was “like 5 years old.” Carter said the highlight of the game was the first touchdown, the punt return.
Carter and his teammates walked proudly in grey and red sweat suits behind the Hoboken High School cheerleaders, the Red Wings lightweight division (who are Hudson County Super Bowl champs), and the marching band.
