The nation’s deadliest elementary school shooting, which took place in Connecticut Friday morning, led police and media to a residence at 13th and Grand streets that had a connection to the suspect. Toward the end of Friday, sources said that the shooter was initially misidentified. While the suspect was initially identified as Ryan Lanza of Hoboken, later reports said that authorities identified his younger brother, 20, who is not a Hoboken resident, as the suspect. The reports said that he may have been carrying the identification of his older brother, leading to the confusion.
The shooting on Friday morning at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. left 26 students and teachers dead, including the suspect’s mother, who was a teacher at the school.
Police gave a statement around 3 p.m. outside of the possible Hoboken residence, saying that it was not true that a body was found there that morning. They also said that two roommates were being interviewed.
Mayor Dawn Zimmer released a statement shortly after 3 p.m. saying she was “horrified” at the shootings. She said the city would help the Connecticut police in any way they could.
