A funeral mass took place Jan. 26 at St. Patrick’s Church, Jersey City, for George H. Pitchford, Sr. He passed away Jan. 20 surrounded by his family. George was born in Jersey City to the late Leola and Macon Pitchford, Sr. He graduated Jersey City Public Schools and Adelphi University. George served as a Buck Sergeant in the Marines. He was a retired Lieutenant from the Port Authority of NY/ Police Dept. and Inspector for the State of New Jersey Enforcement Bureau. He was also a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church. George organized Knights of Peter Claver, ‘Saint Martin DePorres’ Council 297.
He is survived by his wife, Ophelia; children: George Jr., Richard, Douglas (Maria), Gail, Gary (Beverly) and Brian (Barbara); seven grandchildren; sister, Leola Ward; sisters in law; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Services arranged by the McLaughlin Funeral Home, Jersey City.
