OSTROWSKI, CHESTER J.

A funeral mass took place Jan. 28 at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church for Chester J. Ostrowski, 89, of Toms River, formerly of Jersey City and Rutherford. He died Jan. 22 at Van Dyke Hospice in Toms River. He was born in Jersey City and moved to Toms River in 1985. He graduated from Dickinson High School in June of 1941, and attended Newark College of engineering. He served as a Staff Sgt. with the U.S. Army Military Police during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was employed for 44 years by Westinghouse Elevator Division.
He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Holy Name Society, the Rutherford Knights of Colombus, VFW Post 9503, Bayville, president of Westinghouse Elevator Div. Retirees of South Jersey, president and Member of the Year of the Polish American Club of Toms River, Sect.,V. Pres., HCS Mens Club. Inducted into the HCS Mens Club Hall of Fame, Sect. and V. Pres. HCS Golf Club, Captain HCS 400 Club and a member of the HCS Choral Group.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Irene and his son John Ostrowski. He is survived by his wife Joan, his sons, Chester Ostrowski and his wife Lisa, Mark Ostrowski and his wife Mary Beth, his stepson Ralph Kowalik and his wife Donna, and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Kristy, Sandra, Chester, Tyler, Erin, Cara and Kathryn. Services arranged by the Bromirski Funeral Home, Jersey City.
