Union City musician to perform in Weehawken this Wednesday

Union City musician Eric Grossman will be featured as part of the Cosmopolitan Chamber Trio at the UBS Atrium Series’ first concert of the new year on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. The Hudson Riverfront Performing Arts Center (HRPAC) presents this series of free lunchtime concerts in the Atrium at 1000 Harbor Boulevard in Weehawken.
The Cosmopolitan Chamber Trio is comprised of three exceptionally talented virtuosi – Grossman, a violinist, pianist Gleb Ivanov, and saxophonist and composer Russell Peterson. Collectively they have won numerous prizes and awards and appeared at many renowned venues around the world. They will collaborate on a program of great diversity and interest, featuring the New Jersey premiere of Mr. Peterson’s own trio for saxophone, violin and piano. Another highlight will be Sweet Cecimar by Cuban composer Jorge Lopez Marin. Pieces by Maurice Ravel and Dmitri Shostakovich will round out this afternoon of masterful music-making.

West New York postpones Latino History celebration due to inclement weather

Due to an expected snowstorm, the ceremony honoring the lives of three heroes of Latino history that was to take place Friday has now been rescheduled for Friday, Feb. 1. The event will still take place at West New York Middle School, located at 201 57th St.
The town is scheduled to celebrate the lives of Juan Pablo Duarte, Eugenio María de Hostos, and José Martí by honoring three members of the Latino community in West New York.
The ceremony will also unveil local student artwork dedicated to the three founders of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Cuba.
Young performers from West New York’s Amarilys Academy will present attendants with native Cuban and Dominican dances, and the 13-year-old West New York winner of the 2012 New Jersey Performing Arts Center competition will play el cuatro (a Venezuelan guitar).

Union City planned to hold concert in memory of Newtown victims

Mayor Brian Stack and the Union City Board of Commissioners planned to hold a concert Saturday evening (Jan. 26) in memory of the victims of the Newtown, Conn. massacre that took place last month.
The concert was given the name “Voices of Angels.”
With performances by The Union City Philharmonic Orchestra, the Union City Opera, and Ben “Broken English” Figueroa, the city’s poet laureate, the free concert is open to all who wish to attend.
The concert was scheduled to take place at the Union City Performing Arts Center, located at 2500 Kennedy Blvd. at 7 p.m.
Free transportation will be provided from the following locations: 4545 Palisade Ave., 3911 Kennedy Blvd., 3700 Palisade Ave., the Bella Vista Apartment Complex, 1509 Bergenline Ave., 1104 Palisade Ave., 1015 Central Ave., 380 Mountain Road, and the corner of 49th St. and Hudson Ave.
