A funeral mass was offered Feb. 1 at Our Lady of Victories Church, Baptistown, for Francis X. Guenther, 95, of Alexandria Twp. He passed away Jan. 28 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Twp. Mr. Guenther was born in Newark and was the son of the late William and the late Mary Guenther. He lived in West New York for many years before moving to Alexandria Twp. six years ago.
Mr. Guenther served in the United States Army during World War II where he served overseas with the 421st Bombardment Squad, 504th Bomb Group and 313th Wing, 20th Air Force. He received 3 Battle Stars for the Western Pacific Air Offensive, the Japan and the Eastern Mandate Campaign. Frank worked for the State of as an assistant electrical engineer at the North Jersey Training School in Totowa for many years before retiring. He was a NY Yankee and NY Giants Fan. He was a ‘Mr. Fix it,’ able to fix anything. He also enjoyed watching Jeopardy and spending time with his family. One of his proudest moments was getting his GED at the age of 55.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years Virginia Guenther, his son Frank L. Guenther and his wife, Angela and his grandchildren; Rebecca Vita, Michael and Kevin Guenther. He was also predeceased by 11 siblings of whom he was the last. Services arranged by the Martin Funeral Home, Clinton.
