Public schools to students: Pay your lunch tab or get egg salad sandwiches

HOBOKEN — Are egg salad sandwiches so bad?
A parent posted a photo on Twitter this week of what appears to be a memo from Hoboken Board of Education Food Services saying that elementary school students whose negative balance for food services exceeds $6 or more “will be getting an egg salad sandwich, until negative balance is paid in full.”
Still sounds better than mystery meat.
For high school students with negative balances “no meal will be given until negative balance is paid in full.”
The letter is dated Jan. 23 and lists a phone number.
Meanwhile, there are lots of students who have apparently thrived on the lunches. Read this weekend’s Hoboken Reporter for stories about the upcoming musical “Rent” at Hoboken High, and the school’s award winning literary magazine. The stories can be found in your print edition or here at hudsonreporter.com starting Sunday. Miss this issue and no eggs for you!
